    Overview of the research emphasis of our institution/faculty/students

    The REU program provides undergraduate students interested in a career in biological sciences a 10-week research experience. Students are provided with one-on-one training by LSUHSC faculty in designing and conducting experiments, and presenting their results. In addition to research, interns participate in professional development seminars and interactive workshops on topics such as resume writing for graduate school applications and responsible conduct in research. Accepted students are matched with mentors in the LSUHSC's Departments of Basic Sciences. At the end of the program, students will present their research in the form of a poster at LSUHSC Research Day.

    The LSUHSC campus, is located in Downtown New Orleans in the Central Business and Medical District with the School of Dentistry located near New Orleans City Park. LSUHSC offers a wellness center with group exercise classes and workout equipment at the downtown location. The wellness center is open to all LSUHSC students, faculty, and staff, free of charge.

    LSUHSC promotes and supports a diverse set of interests through its student led organizations. There are student government organizations, professional and other affinity groups available to participate in to enhance the student experience.
