Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA) is the only Historically Black and Catholic university in the U.S. and is located in New Orleans, Louisiana.

With over two thirds of undergraduate student majoring in STEM fields, XULA is nationally famed as a STEM-strong (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) institution. XULA offers over 50 majors at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree levels, and the top five undergraduate enrolled programs are: Biology (some with the Pre-med track), Psychology, Chemistry (some Pre-Pharmacy also), Business, and Public Health Sciences. Among XULA’s distinctions, the University is No. 6 by U.S. News and World Report among over HBCUs in the U.S. XULA is the most successful HBCU in terms of upward mobility, being #1 in students’ 15, 30, and 40-year return on investment, offering the highest financial payoff for Black graduates in the U.S. XULA is also # 1 in the U.S. in sending African American graduates on to successfully complete Medical School; XULA is #1 in Louisiana for graduates successfully entering the job market or graduate/professional schools, with a 93% placement rate.

In Fall 2023, XULA has 80 international students from 34 countries. International students are eligible for merit-based scholarships, the same as U.S. students.

    Athletics

    As part of the overall development of its students, Xavier provides an outstanding athletics program. Xavier has intercollegiate varsity teams in:

    • Baseball, basketball, cross country, tennis, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field for men.

    • Competitive cheer, a co-ed sport.

    The university also offers campus recreational sports programs in intramural or club sports, fitness and informal recreation.
